How to connect WhatsApp to Claude
Add OTP Run to Claude as a connector, and Claude writes to people on WhatsApp from your number and reads their replies. Works on the free plan, in the browser and in the Claude apps.

Before you start: link your number
Create a free OTP Run account and link your WhatsApp number in a minute, the same way as WhatsApp Web. Your assistant then writes from this number, and replies come back to you.

Free planOn claude.ai or in the Claude app, open Customize → Connectors.
Click “+ Add”, then “Add custom connector”, and name it OTP Run.
Paste this server address and click Add:

Then start a new chat and ask, for example: “Send Anna: I’ll be 10 minutes late” or “Did Anna reply?”
Optional: add the OTP Run skill
The skill tells Claude how to write to people, wait for replies and report back.
Download the skill:
Download the skillIn Settings → Capabilities, turn on code execution.
Open Customize → Skills and click +.
Choose Upload and pick the downloaded ZIP file.
What to ask after connecting
Write to Anna that I’ll be 10 minutes late.
Did Anna reply? Read me her answer.
Find three dental clinics near me, show me the list, and after my OK ask each one the price of a cleaning.
Remind Mark tomorrow at 9:00 about our meeting.
Show my latest WhatsApp conversations and who has not answered yet.
If something does not work
- Claude says it cannot send messages
- Check that the OTP Run connector is turned on in this chat (the tools button under the message box) and that you clicked Allow when you signed in.
- There is no room for another connector
- The free plan allows one custom connector. Remove one you do not use in Customize → Connectors, or use message links from “Any other AI”.
- The message was not delivered
- Open Numbers in your OTP Run account and check that the number is connected and the phone is online.
- Claude does not see replies
- Check access to chats on the project page: with “Only chats this app wrote to”, Claude sees only those chats.
You stay in control
You choose which chats the assistant may read: all of them or only those it wrote to.
Before it writes to people you did not name, the assistant shows you the list and the text and waits for your OK.
You can disconnect the assistant at any time on the project page in your account.
Questions and answers
Does it work on the free Claude plan?
Yes. The free plan allows one custom connector, and that is enough for OTP Run.
Do I need an API key?
No. You sign in to OTP Run and click Allow, and Claude gets its own access that you can disconnect at any time.
Does it work in Claude Code?
Yes. Run claude mcp add --transport http otprun with the server address, or install the OTP Run plugin. Both are on the AI assistants page.
Will Claude write to people without asking me?
Our guide for assistants tells Claude to show you the list and the text and wait for your OK before it writes to people you did not name.
